The best investment

June 6, 2013

Here’s a life-changing idea…

In the publication, The Parenting Journey: Settle in at Reunion Springs, H. Wallace Goddard says,

“We can think of parenting as work that interrupts our lives, makes us tired and uses up all our money. Or, we can think of parenting as the most important investment we will ever make.”

In other words…

Parenting is hard work. It intrudes on our plans and aspirations. It drains us physically, emotionally, and financially. So why would anyone want to be a parent? Because participating in children’s development can be the most rewarding, enriching, and satisfying thing we ever do. Further, while most work we do will disappear, parenting can leave a legacy of love and goodness that will live for generations.

Here’s how you can use this idea to have a better life…

The next time your schedule (or serenity) is upended by the demands of parenting, remember the profound satisfactions of helping a little person learn, grow, and love. Look at the benefits. The inconvenience of a tucking a child into bed at night provides you the opportunity to make a loving connection with someone who will always enrich your life.
