The secret to getting it done

May 30, 2013

Here’s a great idea…
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming task into manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.” –
Mark Twain

In other words…
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed by the immensity of a task or situation. We postpone starting because we don’t know where to begin. There is a surprising key to getting going: Just do a tiny bit. Take baby steps. Rather than commit yourself to conquering the whole job, find some small thing you can do easily—and do it. Maybe you need to clean your house or organize your workspace. Rather than confronting the whole task, maybe you simply clean off the table. A task begun is a task half done.

Here’s how you can use this idea to have a better life…
The next time you are presented with a large task, just start on some part of it. It doesn’t matter where you start. But once you get started you will find it easier to keep going. Before you know it, the kitchen will be clean.
