Setting yourself up for failure? Stop it!

Here’s a great idea…

In their book, Willpower, Roy Baumeister and John Tierney say,
“The best way to reduce stress in your life is to stop screwing up. That means setting up your life so that you have a realistic chance to succeed” (p. 238).

In other words…

Some of us are overachievers or perfectionists. We set unrealistic expectations of ourselves. We set ourselves up for failure and misery by taking on too many things or demanding perfection. This leads to a life full of distress and discouragement. We can change that. We can plan out our steps for accomplishment. We can take time to relish progress. We can make allowances for imperfection.

Here’s how you can use this idea to have a better life…

What are some goals you can set for yourself this week that are realistic? Be sure not to procrastinate taking steps to achieve those goals. As you progress, take time to celebrate your triumphs.
