We all have our reasons

January 30, 2013

Here’s a great idea…

In their publication, Getting Our Hearts Right, H. Wallace Goddard and James P. Marshall say,
“Other people have motives and logic that make sense to them. People do what they do and believe what they believe for reasons that are just as sensible to them as your motives and logic are to you.”

 In other words…

Sometimes people do things that seem incomprehensible to us. We may think they are stupid or illogical. What we fail to realize is that our actions may seem just as strange to them as theirs do to us. We each only know our own part of the situation. When we take time to understand each other, much conflict can be avoided.

Here’s how you can use this idea to have a better life…

The next time someone does something you don’t understand, stop and ask open-minded questions to find out why they did what they did. When you are genuinely open to their perceptions and preferences you will gain new insights and be better able to work toward a solution that is best for everyone.
