Getting free from the past

December 18, 2012

Here’s a great idea…

In the book, What You Can Change and What You Can’t, Martin Seligman says,
“The rest of the [life] tapestry is not determined by what has been woven before. The weaver herself, blessed with the knowledge and with freedom can change—if not the material she must work with –the design of what comes next” (p. 243).

In other words…

Research has shown that bad events from our past do not have to determine the course of our future, unless we choose to dwell on those events.  Fortunately, it turns out that expressing gratitude and granting forgiveness releases us from the pains we experienced, which empowers us with hope for our future.

Here’s how you can use this idea to have a better life…

Are there troubling memories that plague you? Have you assumed that problems in the past would limit your possibilities for the future? What can you learn from the past? How are you stronger because of what you experienced?

Look to your future. What are your dreams? Design your today to deliver your dreams.
