Make yours the good life

July 11, 2012

Here’s a great idea…

In his book, Authentic Happiness, Martin E. P. Seligman says, “The good life is using your signature strengths every day to produce authentic happiness and abundant gratification.” (p. 13)

In other words…

Many of us assume that the key to happiness and growth is overcoming our weaknesses. Research suggests otherwise. Genuine happiness comes from using our strengths. For that to happen, we need to know our strengths and then design our lives to use them.

Here’s how you can use this idea to have a better life…

Learn what YOUR personal strengths are by taking the free VIA Survey of Character Strengths at www.authentichappiness.org. This 240-item survey will help you determine which of the 24 identified human strengths are most characteristic of you.

Once you have identified your personal strengths, look for ways to use them. You may even redesign your career, hobbies, and life to better use your strengths. Let the happiness begin!
