Becoming a healthier parent

February 24, 2012

Here’s a great idea…

In their publication, The Parenting Journey, H. Wallace Goddard and Steven A. Dennis say, “When we take good care of ourselves, we can be better parents and set a good example for our children. We should try our best to eat well, get plenty of rest, and exercise regularly. We should also make time in our lives to do the things we love to do.”

In other words…
We all want our children to be happy and healthy, but we may not always show them what a healthy lifestyle looks like with our actions. Children learn what is important by watching us. If we make being healthy a priority it will become one for them as well.

Here’s how you can use this idea to have a better life…
Identify 1 or 2 things you will do to create a healthier life for both you and your child. Then do those things. This might include exercising more, eating healthier foods, or going to bed on time. Once you’re successful at one healthy change, then pick another and work on it.
