Walk it out!

March 18, 2011

What Experts Say…

“Exercise may very well be the most effective instant happiness booster of all activities…It essentially serves as a time-out from your stressful day, with positive spill-over effects for hours afterward.” (Sonja Lyubomirsky, leading research psychologist, in her book, The How of Happiness. pp. 245-246)

In Other Words…

Exercise is one of the cheapest, quickest, and most successful activities we can undertake to increase our level of happiness. Some experts recommend a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day. Anything we can do to increase our exercise levels, no matter how small, will be good for both our bodies and our spirits.

How This Applies to You…

Incorporate exercise into your daily routine. This doesn’t require joining a gym; exercises can be done at home. It could something as simple as taking a walk around your neighborhood. Find someone willing to walk with you and track your progress with our Walk Across Arkansas program. Or for other exercises you can do at home, check out our Fit in 10 and Stretch It Out programs, all of which can be found under the Health section of www.arfamilies.org
