Choose your mood!

February 15, 2011

What Experts Say…

“It is impossible to sustain a negative mood in the presence of a large number of positive memories, expectation, and beliefs, and it is impossible to sustain a positive mood in the presence of a large number of negative thoughts.” (Psychologist Martin E. P. Seligman in his book, Authentic Happiness, p. 226)

In Other Words…

We often feel that our feelings come unbidden. We may be quite unaware that what we choose to think about has an enormous effect on what we feel. Therefore, it makes sense to dwell on good things.

How This Applies to You…

Find things in your life to be happy about. These might be pleasant little things or great blessings that have enriched your life. Take time to cherish them. Also, savor things as they happen—whether it is beautiful weather, the smile of a friend, or a delicious lunch. You might also dream about future possibilities. By filling your mind with positive thoughts, you will find happiness filling your life.
